Heritage Story

Villa Alanna’s roots to the ancient city can be seen with our guests’ own eyes and touched with their own hands, through the generation-spanning trees that grace the property and connect it to the past. Selected for its unique proximity to the old city center by original owner Neon Krishnaseeni -- a member of one of Thailand’s aristocratic families -- the land beneath Villa Alanna was acquired in 1940s.

With old canal in front and Doi Suthep mountain in back, these 6.7 acres were chosen by Neon as perfect locale to plant trees to connect future generations to their ancestors. What became known over the years and decades as “The Attorney Neon’s Longan Garden” eventually featured longan, mango, lychee, jackfruit, raintree, and other local trees, rising to the sky to shade the grounds even as their roots reached deeply into the earth.

Today, visitors are greeted at Villa Alanna’s entrance by an outstanding half-century old mango tree. During their stays each will individually discover the sacred “Pra Cho Hah Pra Aong” tree at the heart of the property, which anchors Villa Alanna’s place in both space and time with eternal love, wisdom, and protection.
